Veteran Sandalwood stars are now shifting gears towards small screen for brighter prospects while reviving their second innings. A trend spread across national television, actors who’ve amassed years of experience are now the star attraction on fictional dramas. Even Kannada television has been giving a special platform fo senior talents with meaty roles. At present, almost every top tele-serial on Kannada television has roped in experienced campaigners to lead the show in addition to their guidance and inspirational roles for younger talents. Bengaluru Chronicle reports.
“It is a great sign to get senior actors to play vital roles in tele-ventures. They are a definite value addition especially considering the current fight for supremacy over TRPs. Though they are usually seen in supporting roles such as the family head, paternal and grand paternal roles, they have a powerful presence. Some even do it simultaneously,” says director Prashanth director.
Whereas, television writer Ashwini says that some of them have attained more popularity after switching over to TV. Veteran actor Srinath is equally popular with his TV act, as a host and even while playing characters. Recently, the Manasa Sarovara serial, which is a continuation of the classic movie involving all three senior actress including himself, proved to be a success. Senior actress Lakshmi Devamma has become popular after her serial Padmavati where she plays the character of a innocent grandmother who is a witch in reality,” she adds.
Also, the working conditions suit the veterans as they get to play prominent roles on TV. “There are very limited opportunities on the silver screen and a majority of such great actors are finding solace on TV. It not only supports them financially, but gives them the much needed recognition and respect,” says producer Srinivas, adding that many also do it for their undying passion towards acting.
Actress Kavya wraps it up saying that it is always a privilege to share the screen with such veterans. “They share their experiences and guide us to do well. They become part of our lives. It is always like going to a family than to work,” she signs off.
