Vijayawada: The second day of the Amaravati Theatre Festival ended with artistes enacting Ghumayee, written and directed by Padmashri award winner Balwant Thakur. The drama was staged at Tummalapalli Kalakshetram in the city on Saturday. Telugu film actress Mannara Chopra lauded the initiative.
‘Ghumayee’, a Dogri n play, which has already made a mark in the world theatre, is credited for being the first Indian play which made it to the Frankfurt International Theatre Festival (Germany), World Experimental Theatre Festival (Moscow, Russia) and the 2010 Commonwealth Games hosted in New Delhi.
The second day of the festival began with Anaganaga, a Telugu play written and directed by Vasudeva Rao Routhu, played at Kaladarshini at the Andhra Loyola College; followed by “Maa Intiki Randi" by B.R.S. Prakasa Rao at Siddhartha Academy. The festival is part of the government’s efforts to revive and bring back recognition to theatre art with a larger goal to make the state a tourism and cultural hub of the country, and Vijayawada, the cultural capital of AP.
