With seasoned director Shankar, all set to make his debut in Tollywood with ‘Game Changer,’ industry bigwigs are keenly watching the making and completion of the film. “It had a few hiccups and finally it is slated for release in December. Honestly, top Telugu producers and directors want to see whether Shankar would be able to deliver his first hit in Telugu or not since his earlier blockbusters were mostly dubbed movies, says a top producer and adds, “Telugu nativity is different from Tamil, so Shankar should have had a right rope walk trying to balance between contrasting sensibilities. Tamil films are mostly realistic-driven, while Telugu movies slightly deviate to incorporate commercial ingredients and surely a film to watch out for."

A few doubts have been raised since the last film ‘Indian 2’ failed to impress. Now he is working hard to regain his lost glory and winning habit. "These kinds of discussions happen every Friday and people have this tendency to write off big filmmakers and stars if one of their films bombs,” he points out. He further elaborates, “Shankar is the only director in India to have the longest and most successful stint for over 30 years which is unique and unmatched,” he adds. He claims that maybe the plot of 'Indian 2' didn’t enthrall the audience and didn't match up with new trends. “Maybe, he has to rework on his narrative style to match up with 2k kids'. Otherwise, his plot selection, big casting, visual spectacle, and music sense have been outstanding for three decades."

Of course, Shankar has been rocking Kollywood and Tollywood since the early 1990s and delivered the biggest hits like ‘Gentleman’, “Premikudu’, ‘Indian’, ’Jeans’, ‘Aparachitudu, ‘Oke Okkadu’ and ‘Robot’ to be hailed as the uncrowned king of commercial cinema for three decades. “His versatile talent helped him to handle varied themes like reservation, lovers’ woes, corruption in society, work of CM towards his people, and so on. No one could match up to his socio-centric themes blended with richly mounted songs, star-studded casting, exotic locations, and lilting music numbers. No doubt, his combination with whizkid A R Rahman has resulted in innumerable and everlasting chartbusters,” he concludes.
