Flop Tollywood filmmaker eyes Sankranti Release for Garudan remake
Thanks to directors like SS Rajamouli and Sukumar, the entire world is looking at Telugu cinema. Undoubtedly, these filmmakers have taken regional content to the next level. While it is an undeniable fact that it is the responsibility of others also to create content that can increase the expectations, it looks like some of the filmmakers are still eyeing remaking other regional films.
Tamil film Garudan, which hit the screens recently, is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video. As if Telugu audiences have not seen enough remakes, this film is now being remade in Telugu. Digging more into the details, Garudan stars Soori, Sasikumar and Unni Mukundan in lead roles. The Telugu remake is going to have Bellamkonda Sreenivas, Nara Rohit and Manchu Manoj playing the same roles respectively.
The remake will be directed by Vijay Kanakamedala who has previously made Naandi and Ugram. While the director has managed to give a hit with the first film, the second film was a disaster at the box office. The remake will be produced by KK Radha Mohan who has been struggling to bag a hit at the box office for a few years now. His recent films were Bhimaa starring Gopichand and Ruslaan, a Hindi film starring Ayush Sharma.
A source close to the industry said, "The producers of star-studded films are struggling to make the expectations meet in regards to the audience and the collections. And remaking a film that is already available on the OTT is not a good move. A lot of aspects need to be considered while remaking a film." He further added, "They are eyeing Sankranti release. Which is yet again a bad move. Chiranjeevi, Venkatesh, Ajith, and Ravi Teja are already in the line for the release. And imagine a remake releasing on Sankranti!"
The film is likely to go on floors this month. More details will be shared soon.
