Kartikeya: Script ninja or role juggler?
The actor is smashing stereotypes and reshaping narratives

After the blockbuster success of Bedurulanka 2012, Kartikeya Gummakonda surprised many by taking his time before announcing his next film, Bhaje Vaayu Vegam, emphasising his commitment to a lasting career. “You are as good as your last film,” he asserts, highlighting the importance of careful planning and character selection.
“Since we shoulder the film, we should pick up stories and roles that suit us and resonate with the audiences,” Kartikeya explains, shedding light on the meticulous process behind choosing projects. He recalls initially shooting for Bhaje Vaayu Vegam but later shifting focus to Bedurulanka 2012 due to appearance and continuity concerns.
In Bhaje Vaayu Vegam, Kartikeya, is portraying a professional cricketer. He underwent rigorous training to ensure authenticity. “I had undergone professional cricket training for a realistic performance,” he shares.
Exploring deeper characterisations has been a journey for Kartikeya. “With time and experience, I’ve been able to understand characters on a deeper level,” he reflects.
“My knowledge on script is getting deeper and better as I work with different directors,” Kartikeya says. His versatility shines in grey roles like Gang Leader, observing the evolution of antagonist roles with their increasingly layered arcs. “Antagonists have a deeply layered character arch,” he notes.
“We need to constantly learn and reinvent ourselves,” he emphasises, embracing cinema’s ever-changing landscape.
