When love mergers with devotion
Interview with local author Dipnanda Bhaduri Roy, whose debut novel, I am in Love with a Shudh Desi Firangi: Hey Shiva I See You in Him is just out
Creativity often pushes you to strike out in different directions. Authoring a book sprouted out of a similar impulse, believes Dipnanda Bhaduri Roy, a Bengaluru-based content writer who has made inroads into the Indian publishing industry with her first book, I am in Love with a Shudh Desi Firangi: Hey Shiva I see You In Him. The author pledges to donate a portion of the profits to Bangalore-based child welfare foundation Kritagyata Trust. In a candid chat, she tells us more…
“The real motivation to write a novel arose when someone in my professional circle told that my star performer records and accolades came out of sheer ‘luck’ and ‘coincidence’,” begins the management graduate, who further adds, “It was then that I decided to write for a larger audience and prove my worth over a career as a ghostwriter who helps others.”
The book revolves around an interesting theme of Blending and acceptance: the loving interactions between Hinduism and Christianity which redefines selfless love towards Shiva and humanity. Speaking of her biggest takeaway from the whole experience of writing; Dipnanda says, “Nature and human emotions inspire me. The book taught me to embrace uncertainty. Never get discouraged by rejections. Rejections mean nothing.”
When quizzed about the two things she loves doing during free time, Dipnanda is quick to answer, “Writing helps me de-stress, while reading keeps me happy. I also love listening to Sadhguru’s speeches. I’m always on the lookout for anything that pampers my highly imaginative mind.”
Stressing upon how criticism and negativity have always inspired her; Dipnanda says, “Negativity has always propelled me to push harder. There’s this sense of thrill in working towards things in my favor. But I am also aware of where my energy should be invested.”
That said, she concludes by stating that she’s prepared to face the trolls and hate comments head-on. “I would choose to ignore trolls and enjoy a bout of laughter within myself. Negative or positive, after all, people are giving me attention,” she signs off.
