Avani Art Initiative to bring public closer to art
Initiative aims to organise professionally curated art exhibitions
KOZHIKODE: In a bid to provide a space for artists in the city to exhibit as well as sell paintings and other creative works and bridge the gap between art, architecture and public, a group of architects and artists has launched a non-profit organisation, 'Avani Art Initiative.' The initiative aims to organise professionally curated art exhibitions, run publications, permanent art gallery, conduct workshops and other events featuring masters as well as promising artists' work.
There will be talks and interactive sessions to help enhance the appreciation of art and aesthetics among artists, students and the general public. Classes in architecture have already started. Architect Tony Joseph, patron of the initiative, told DC, "many architects are involved in the initiative. We have merged art and architecture. We need some space for art apart from the existing art gallery," Tony said adding that in the first phase an art exhibition will be organized.
A participant in the upcoming Kochi Muziris Biennale 2016, Tony said art is a passion for many and we should take some initiative to give a space for all. Noted artist Murali Cheroth, coordinator of the initiative, told DC that it would act like a bridge between art and gallery. "A space for grooming and growing would be provided for the art students from the fine arts colleges," he said. "Many artists have expressed willingness to cooperate with the initiative and the exhibition is aimed at raising funds for it," he added. Noted artist Riyas Komu will inaugurate the exhibition Art One at Avani on Wednesday.
