A brush with insta easels
Young artists in town are now looking at popular social media channels as a platform to promote their art and reach out to the audience.
By the law of social media, you shall not let a good picture go unposted. And surely not, if it’s a sight of colourful strokes. Well, if you are clued in on trends, it wouldn’t come as a surprise to note how millennial artists are insta-savvy, and know exactly how to go about promoting, sharing and spreading some love through their art. We speak to Bengaluru-based upcoming artists and asked them to give their opinion on Instagram as a tool...
Hashtags tags help!: Hashtags are used in order to promote your work as it helps you get featured on other art accounts which increase the amount of followers on an artist’s page. Shravan Kumar, a student of Christ University who specialises in oil and acrylics opines, “For making a mainstream promotion of one’s work to the market, it is advertised through paid promotion and by turning a private account into a business page which makes it into a customer interaction interface.” Shravan has a point here because by linking an art page to other various social media sites can make it easier for your audience to find your page.
Another way to increase your followers is by promoting your unique work– in the form of painting on wood, seas shells or anything that isn’t widely common. For instance, Anime can be quite a challenge to sketch due to the intricacy of the facial structures and costumes of these characters. Namrata Dutta, an upcoming artist specialises in Anime sketching adding her own twist with the use of Watercolours. She says, “Drawing Anime has always felt right to me because it’s creative, challenging and fun. I only draw characters that I love and admire or relate to in some way and in doing so; I find an outlet to express my gratitude and respect for the creators of those characters. Instagram is a great platform to showcase my art to the world and interact with people who share similar interests.”
Further commenting on the use of Instagram, Karishma Hegde, a student of Global Academy of Technology says, “Social media has proved to be very useful to me as it provides a platform to showcase my hobby. Not only my work reaches friends and circles close by, but anyone globally can find it. This gives me an opportunity to receive comments/suggestions from a large group of audience and come across new ideas to experiment with!”
