Funny side of cricket
Rohit and Hriday will perform Silly Point in Kochi on May 6.
Rohit Swain and Hriday Ranjan were happily settled in life. While Hriday is a writer, Rohit worked for an IT firm. Both of them, complete strangers to one another, met at an event and had to present something for the gathering. This was a reality check for them and the duo discovered that they could make people laugh through their stand up comedy.
The next thought was how to make their pair different amongst the number of stand up comedians in the country. So they thought of taking cricket as their core subject. “Cricket is probably one topic in our country that we relate to the most after Bollywood. So we thought why not try it out. We make parody songs and come up with comedy about the game and the cricketers,” says Rohit, who is very excited to perform in Kochi on May 6.
With their first India tour across eight cities, Rohit & Hriday are going to present one fun hour of stand up comedy sprinkled with parody songs and sketches. According to the duo, they prepare the items for every city according to the crowd that is expected there and especially keep in mind that all the items are meant even for non- cricket fans. “Most of the times, the husbands are cricket fans and they force their wives to attend such events in which they will be least interested. But we ensure that everyone present at our show irrespective of being a cricket fan or not, they will laugh their stomachs out,” Rohit added.
The duo is planning an interactive event at Kochi, with parody songs, which they have created by replacing the lyrics of famous Hollywood songs, games that will include audiences as well and other activities that are the surprise element and the audiences will only get to know once they reach the venue.
Asked about the language barrier, Rohit says that they have no tensions regarding that mainly for two things. One, comedy knows no language barrier and second, Malayalee crowd is a well educated one and therefore will understand what they want to convey.
The event Silly Point is being organised by Kochin Komedians, who will do an opening act and introduce the duo to the audience. The event will take place at Arena Cafe, Olive down town, Kadavanthra from 7.30 to 9.30pm.
