Bold and Beautiful: For Iranian photographer Tahmineh Monzav it was crucial to capture the essence of the lives of women living in the slums of Tehran. She feels that deep inside, every woman wants to be desirable

As part of the Indian Photography Festival 2018 which was inaugurated in the city on Wednesday, the International Women Photographers Award Exhibition (IWPA) that showcases some of the best works of women photographers from around the world is presently on display at the Alliance Française Hyderabad Gallery.

Organised by Antidote art and design in collaboration with the IWPA, MyArtSpy and Alliance Française Dubai, the event is ongoing till September 23.

The essence of IWPA is to promote women photographers and act as a global platform for them to showcase their art. Around 600 participants across the globe submitted their photographs around the theme Visible/Invisible, out of which 11 photographers were selected to showcase their work at the exhibition.

Empowering: The aim of photographer Manyatsa Monyamane’s work is to celebrate the undying spirit of resilience

Manyatsa Monyamane, who is one of the 11 awardees, shares that the participants in her project emphasise the historical value of the elders. The people in her pictures are real people who witnessed and experienced the transition of an entire society towards the birth of a new nation.

The work of each of these photographers is moving and thought-provoking.  Sharing stories of women living in the slums of Tehran, photographer Tahmineh Monzav says, “When I looked into their eyes, I could feel the depth of their torturous lives. This series of portraits proves that every woman, no matter how much they suffer, is always beautiful.”
