A hilarious comedy of errors
This play is a social satire, where three characters play interchanging roles of a journalist, a spiritual guru and a CEO.
What if we assume that everyone around is a fool? No offense, the foolish part is that a fool never thinks he’s a fool, and if he realises it, then he isn’t the fool. It happens to all of us. We see someone act in a particular way and we say to ourselves, ‘Oh what a fool!’ Three characters playing the roles of a journalist, a spiritual guru, and a CEO who conveys that it’s okay to be a fool and how one can learn from being foolish and grow for the better. This play Fools Around by Lebeda Productions will be in theatres on this Sunday December 8 at Lah Lahe hub.
Director Devanand Mahakund shares, “This play is both unique and challenging in it’s own way. Three characters in the play will be seen playing all the three roles and constantly interchange their roles leading to a merry roller-coaster ride filled with laughter and madness. Without making it as a much preachy subject, it is a social satire and strikes a balance between entertainment and message of caring for our environment, society and our fellow humans and animals. In short our world. This play is all about imagination and we have used the stage to bring the imagination to life without using traditional heavy sets.”
Fools Around is a mix of various factors. Take three tablespoons of madness, two tea-cups of music and a pinch of satire garnished with a simple engaging script cooked for two months in an organic pot filled with hardwork, dedication and love by the director Devanand Mahakund and three debutant artistes Ashutosh VSL, Shashank R and Sankhya Dey.
Shshank R who likes the swag in all his characters shares, “The plot is very understandable with no complexity and will people will connect with it. Play conveying through music, comedy, drama and three different stories within one story and in a short period is little tactical to imply. Being our first performance, we locked in on a subject that is easily conveyable and connectable to the audience. I am pretty sure about all my characters making the audience laugh with such humour and stupidity.”
Sankhya Dey says, “It was a bit challenging to portray the megalomaniac CEO but my decade of experience and observations helped me to portray this role.
The swag in my character and the way I respond to other characters is what impressed me most about my role. Showing the crooked nature of the CEO whose only priority in life is to work and make money inspired me to take up this character. But I also enjoy enacting the role of the spiritual Guru who is a fraud.” He also adds, “This social satire which expresses the darkness of society with humour was unique and quite challenging. But the regional touch and also Hindi ensured that we connected easily with the audience.”
Ashuthosh VSL opines that everyone can relate this play to their daily life and shares, “Playing a character different from myself is exciting and in theatre performances changing one character to another is challenging. Play is all about making people laugh with a social reflection to it. Humor and social reflect as a unique factor, the play is quite challenging because of the enactment of all the the three roles by all the three characters.”
This pun-intended play with all the perfect elements is going to keep it’s date with the audience this Sunday.
