Jewel in the grub!
Bengaluru-based designer Apurva Chetan specialises in handmade jewellery that resembles popular edibles.
In a customisation-frenzy era, it comes as little surprise to note how banal patterns are passe – with quirky designs being the way forward. For folks who’d love to eat the cake and keep it, here’s probably the chance.
All thanks to Apurva Chetan, a young Bengalurean’s recent idea, of course. Her debut venture, Humming Hues – a home-based set-up, is through which the entrepreneur cum acupressure specialist hand makes jewellery and quirky stationery that resemble popular edibles! In a candid chat, she tells us more...
“The idea was to make miniatures of yummy food, cute animals and crazy comic characters that people go gaga over! I believe, the feeling when you wear your favourite cupcake as a pendant and your friends just adore it is priceless!! In an era of #OOTD, the whole point was to give out a whimsical interest to a girl-next-door’s wardrobe,” shares the 27-year old electronics engineer.
Born into a business family, she reiterates how the idea of starting out on her own was a natural progression. “My father is a businessman. I’ve always wanted to be as dedicated and focused like him. The biggest perks of starting up is that you realise its your baby entirely. The work you do becomes your identity, than just a means to paying your bills.”
Barely six months since the venture’s advent, but Apurva sheds light on how this was something she was always innately passionate. “I have always shown immense interest art in craft since childhood. I used to excel in drawing and painting in my school days. Colour, art and creativity always attracted me, since childhood. I have come across various forms of craft but clay miniatures seemed very fascinating. It made a very special place in my heart and thus my passion turned into profession, something that I love and enjoy doing, where work is fun and vice versa.”
Work aside, the city lass lets us in on her other interests, “I am a National Level Athlete. I have learnt karate, table tennis, painting and different forms of craft. Also, I love learning new languages. On days when I’m not promoting my line through my Facebook and Insta accounts, I’m indulging in any of these.” Her range falls in the bracket of Rs 300-500 .
Speaking about what’s lies ahead, she concludes by stating, “My husband is very supportive. He is the best critic of my work and helps me bring out the best of myself. We have a whole new line planned up for release which include lapel pins, bracelets, anklets, personlised message cards, dust plugs and so on!! Also our website will be launched in the next two months. I wish our work strikes a chord with every young Bengalurean on the go .”
