Hyderabad: The Deccan Heritage Trust will hold an exhibition of old textbooks, certificates, medals, photographs to mark the centenary year of Osmania University.
“We are trying to showcase material from 1917 up to the 1950s, which will be a rare collection,” said Dr Mohammed Shafiullah of the Deccan Heritage Trust. He added that the trust planned to celebrate the centenary event for a year.
“A firman (royal order) was issued Mir Osman Ali Khan on April 26, 1917 for the inauguration of Osmania University with Urdu as the medium of instruction and English as a compulsory subject. This firman was based on a memorandum submitted by Sir Akbar Hyderi in early 1917 in his capacity as education secretary to the government,” Dr Shafiullah said.
The trust will unveil a logo highlighting the 100-year journey of the varsity. “We are in the process of finalising the logo with inputs from the members of the trust,” Dr Shafiullah said.
The Osmania University centenary celebrations are scheduled to begin in the last week of April.
