Hubballi: A book Meese Maava, a compilation of short stories authored by Deccan Chronicle, Bengaluru Chief of Bureau Mr Bhaskar Hegde, was released at Rangayana auditorium in Dharwad on Wednesday.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Hegde stressed on the need to compile new Kannada phrases and idioms being spoken in rural areas once in every 2-3 years on the lines of how the English vocabulary is made contemporary by the Oxford Dictionary.
Lamenting that English is being used in place of beautiful Kannada phrases and phrases in the metropolitan city of Bengaluru, he said that a compilation of these Kannada words and idioms will provide a new impetus for the mother tongue along and also encourage people to learn it.
"There is need to collect and compile Kannada phrases and idioms not from the literary world, but also from the languages being spoken in rural areas. Kannada Sahitya Academy, Hampi Kannada University and other Kannada organisations should initiate such a move to format and structure them", Mr Hegde said.
