The Limca Book of Records 2024 marks the completion of 34 years of LBR. What went into this gorgeously produced, all-colour, large-format 416-page book? Editor Vatsala Kaul-Banerjee explains:

Please tell us about the editing process.

We receive applications from record claimants who describe a record they may have set or one they wish to set in a variety of fields, such as human endeavour, structures, sports, education, defence, government, science and technology, adventure, business and the arts. The claim must be a superlative (highest, fastest, first of a kind).

How did you go about ensuring the fact checks?

The documentary evidence is scrutinised by at least three persons and checked against relevant or related public domain information as well. This is examined at least three – and often more – times to ascertain if the claim and the final achievement match.

The correctness of information is also ensured by our experts who examine and review documentation. For instance, author and marketer Diptakirti Chaudhuri looks at cinema; in sports, hockey historian and journalist K. Arumugham contributes to the hockey section, veteran journalist Jaydeep Basu oversees football, and so on.
