A logo, however small, has a story to tell. When Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao formally launched the logos of the first Telangana World Telugu Conference and Telangana Sahitya Academy recently at an event, they got everybody talking.

Ravishankar, noted painter from Jangaon, is the man who designed the logo for the Telangana World Telugu Conference. Talking about his journey creating vague sketches to the final draft of the logo, he says, “The logo was designed with symbols of Kakatiya dynasty along with state map in the centre. I incorporated the golden colour portraying the beginning of the golden era for the state.”

According to Ravishankar, creating logos need more than just design work. “I designed around four sample logos and from amongst them, the final one was chosen. Art is a difficult field and creating logos, that too, is an intricate work. At first, one has to understand the concept the person wants and then with your own creativity, you make a logo. It has to be precise, attractive and to the point.”

It is not the first time that Ravishankar’s designs have got him recognition. He is also the one behind the creation of the official state government logos for Bathukamma, Telangana State Handicrafts Development Corporation (Golconda handicrafts), K.C.R Kit, among others.

Hailing from a village, and without even a proper textbook to study, Ravishankar was inspired by his father to take up art. “My father used to do illustrations on textbooks and watching him, I decided to concentrate on art. To me, the small illustrations on the pages did more of the talking than the words. After completing BFA, I completely immersed myself into art,” he says.

Now that his logo of Telangana World Telugu Conference is gaining recognition, he is focusing on creating more quality work. “Even though my field of work is fine arts, I also paint. And if everything falls into place, I am planning to exhibit them very soon,” he concludes.
