A thumbs up for Bibliophiles
Book lovers are now participating in challenges on social media while showing off their reading skills.
Ernest Hemingway, a famous novelist once rightfully said, “There is no friend as loyal as a book.” In an era where books are easily and quickly available, we have several options to choose from. It becomes difficult to know which book is better than the other, with an array of eclectic mix of genres in line.
#LiteraryChallenge is back and will now help you understand which book is trending out there, and which one suits you in particular. Unlike other challenges on social media platforms, this one requires you to be more intellectual than adventurous or daring. The Literary Challenge is a ten day long challenge in which, every book lover uploads a picture of the most profound book they’ve read and also nominate three people to do the same by mentioning a small description of who these people are and what they do. Every challenge day that passes by, the person tags three new people, mentioning a new book and the chain continues.
While the challenge hasn’t gone viral yet, unlike other challenges like the #BottleCapChallenge or the #SareeTwitter challenge, bibliophiles are taking up this one pretty seriously. Yashoda Devi, one of the challengers says, “I have been reading from when I was 12 years old, right now, I have read everything I’ve got. After my #LiteraryChallenge post, I have received so many recommendations, that too of some brilliant books.” Talking about the reading culture amongst todays millennials, she continues, “I am not quite sure if the reading habits amongst the youth has gone down or not, but with such inspirational people recommending their favourite reads, it’s a way of ensuring that the reading culture does not die.”
Some of the other books related challenges that are doing rounds around different social media platforms are #ReadingChallenge on Facebook, where readers are posting a picture of the book they are currently reading, #ReadingChallenge2019 where readers are reviewing the books they’ve read. #ReadingChallenge on twitter is a 60 days challenge, in which some people are showing a 60 day progress of a single book read, while others, especially those who are quick readers, are sharing posts about 60 books they will read in 60 days.
Supriya Pai, an employee at a bank in Bengaluru says, “I have always wanted to get into the habit of reading but I needed a push. Challenges like these encourage us aspiring readers.” Candidly speaking, she continues saying, “Though I have not taken part in the challenge, it makes me want to read. I am at least getting to know about different writers out there, that’s a pretty good start for me.”
