THRISSUR: A disciple of the late Ashtavaidyan Padma Shri E. T. Neelakandan Mooss has come out with a reference book named 'Rare Methods of Treatment by Mooss' as a tribute. Dr P. K. Dharmapalan, professor and head of the department of Kayachikitsa at Vaidyaratnam Ayurveda College in Ollur here, has compiled 505 case studies of his treatments at Thaikkattu Mooss Illam at Thaikkattussery. The study during a year-long training programme from December 1982, there is presented in the form of the illness described by the patient to the Mooss and the prescriptions. "The Mooss method of knowing the ailment by querying the patients is unique," he says.

"He makes the patient speak his mind and then diagnose the disease. The book has prescriptions for cold to cancer. The book intends to take the legacy of my teacher and the Ashtavaidya to the next generation." He prepared the notes for the book as a student under him, jolting down his each and every conversation with the patient. This traditional method of Ashtavaidya is much talked about. But this would be only such a book giving a clear idea. It could be a good reference book for students, teachers and practitioners. 'I have printed only 505 copies of the book and those who wish to get a copy can contact my college. The book will not be sold on a commercial basis," he said.
