Rise up to women power
This art exhibition celebrated women power with some great work and poetic verse too.
“Everything we see hides another thing, we always want to see what is hidden by what we see.”
— Rene Magritte
Art Houz played host to a unique art show by 16 contemporary women artists. Some of the most stellar works by these artists are on display at the art show. A juxtaposition of versatile mediums and styles with no particular narratives, aside from the artwork being smaller in size, the artists bring together outstanding works across all genres. The idea is to present the viewer with an eclectic array of artworks in varied mediums ranging from paintings, drawings, etching, smoke art, poetry, installation and sculptures. The overall narrative centres around: The Woman — The power to create, nurture and transform! The word ‘woman’ conjures up images of selflessness, love, care and affection. Anuradha Nalapat, one of the senior-most artists in the show apart from showing her works, had a poetry rehearsal too which she dedicated to her guru, yoga guru, spiritual healer and renowned artist, Bharat Thakur. Anuradha says that a lot of her inspiration for art has come in the form of Bharat Thakur’s sheer passion for art and life which has touched not only hers, but many people’s lives. Another artist who has been passionately painting is Shirley Mathew. She shares her thoughts behind her work, “As an artist, I am using the theme I Rise to stand for a greener planet and express my concern over rising urbanisation that is the cause of receding lakes and encroaching green-scapes. Much as I like living in the city, I do love natural landscapes, and feel we should respect and care for our own good and the generations ahead.” Other artists like printmaker Urmila VG and Bhavani GS have displayed their trademark works of art. The show was a nice way to end the Women’s Day month and we are glad we witnessed some real woman power in art. The showing opened to pubic on March 21 and will go till April 5.
