Art for art's sake
The dawn to dusk art event held in Chennai recently was a great platform for budding artists.
This unique art event, held in the city last weekend, witnessed artists from different streams coming together for an all-nighter to create unique artwork. Titled as Art All Night, the event was organised by Platform for Artists in collaboration with Life and Art Academy.
Pawan Rochwani, the founder of Platform for Artists, a Pune-based organisation, says, “The event was about creating disciplinary artworks through the collaboration of various artists from different art forms. This was our first event in Chennai and we saw 20 artists from various fields — music, literature, photography, painting and filmmaking. We started at 10 pm on Saturday and ended the event at 10 am on Sunday.”
The team had pair collaboration activities and the artists came up with creative pieces. “So pair collaboration means that two artists (from different fields) will be asked to come up with a creative piece in a given time. A new concept in Chennai, this was a first for most of the participants. To create something unique in a limited time is quite challenging. The results were so remarkable and the presentations were out-of-the-box and extraordinary. We never thought that this will become a hit among them,” he claims.
He also shares with us one interesting thing that happened during the night. “After the pair collaboration activity, we had group collaboration — where one should work with 4-5 artists and create something interesting like a short skit, story, video, painting etc. And one group came up with the idea of drawing lines based on the lines on their palms, and make it into an artwork!” explains Pawan.
With an aim to introduce new artists and provide them with a great space to expose their creativity, Pawan and team are gearing up for a mega event to be held in Goa.
Archana, co-founder of Life and Art Academy —the venue of the event, shares, “One of the specialties of the event was that it was not restricted to one particular field. The event was open to a variety of art forms. Being an academy that supports artists, we were more than happy to be associated with this event and am sure this would be a stepping stone for budding artists from all streams.”
