New media remains the preferred genre amongst the nine artists presently displaying their works at Nehru art gallery. They have recently completed their master’s degree and their works reinstate the in-depth understanding about art and expression that they have assimilated during two years of the programme.

Dinesh’s work

These young artists have not only made their mentors proud but their show also promises a memorable experience to the viewers. One of the artists in the show, A.Prashanthi talks about her installation work titled Reformation, “For a woman cooking is one primary chore she has to deal with everyday.

Artist Shashikala’s work

My installation depicts my thought process about this topic. I have composed my self-portrait in the center and placed all the kitchen utensils around it.” Prashanthi’s paintings too are highly imaginative and full of life.

Bhargavi’s piece of art

Equally noteworthy, M.V.S. Bhargavi’s work is highly introspective in nature. A wooden frame encloses numerous glass cubes each reflecting multiple images. The work represents the capacity of glass to reflect the person who stands in front of it with a neutral impartiality.

Similarly, Sravanthi’s paintings too are self searching and evaluating in nature. The mirrors, cosmetics and dresses arranged in surreal manner seem to question the meaning and span of real beauty.

On the other hand, Shashikala, who has worked with simplified figuration, explains, “Women are represented as a form of shakti and to enhance the essence I have illuminated the works from within.” Also noteworthy is the form of a rib cage embedded with iridescently hued led lights executed by Subhashini.

Artist Prashanthi’s art

Artist Rambabu Yanamala in a unique manner amalgamates eclectic images in his work. “I have composed metaphors like skull, bullets and modern gadgets etc, which are used by mankind. My intention was to club multiple excerpts to represent the reality of our contemporary world,” he says.

Artwork by Subhashini

Taviti Raju and J. Dinesh Kumar have created awareness about the diminishing greenery from urban terrains. Raju’s installation titled, traffic on tree, which contains closely juxtaposed toy cars climbing on tree made of pipes and on two life sized deer, creates a strong nostalgia for flora and fauna.

Sravanthi’s artwork

Dinesh’s mixed media work creates an interesting space with the mention of a flyover, foot path and concrete walls. A slender peacock perched on a wall in the corner of the composition looks immensely confused and lonely.
