Hyderabad: Dhi Artspace on Sunday evening launched a new art gallery, Dhi Contemporary, in Jubilee Hills, bringing together art lovers, artists, art students and enthusiasts coming for an exhibition, as well as discussions on various art forms and installations.

A panel discussion on ‘Contemporary Indian Art’ was also organised as a part of the evening, wherein art experts and art teachers, Prof. Sanchayan Ghosh, Prof. Sharada Natarajan, Prof. Indrapramit Roy, Prof. Kavita Balakrishnan, Prof. B.V. Suresh, Prof. Parul Dave Mukherji, as well as artist Suresh Jayaram, spoke about ways to keep art contemporary, especially in the context of students.

Experts said that art could be made contemporary by taking ownership, as everybody was a product of their own time. They also stressed the importance of dialogue and bidirectional learning from teacher to students and vice versa, to make the learning more relevant to the new generation.

The discussion also emphasised the importance of liberating the pedagogy as a tool of learning art, instead of a system, to spot-light and encourage individual artists.

Experts observed that raising awareness of contemporary art involving local artists was a crucial need of the hour.

The new art space, owned by Bhargavi Gundala, will be available for art exhibitions and displays.
