Luminescent artistry
Hyderabad's artists are busy exploring the glow-in-the-art realm of psychedelic art.
Art comes from within. Each artist’s aesthetic is reflected in the art he/she creates and we are attracted to those works that speak to us. As kids, we loved looking at radium stickers of the moon and stars. So we’d probably feel nostalgic when viewing galaxy or psychedelic art, a relatively new art form that gives a surreal effect. Embracing the trend, three Hyderabad-based artists have been creating artworks that fall into this genre.
Nabihah Hafeez, a student, believes galaxies have something magical about them. She uses watercolours as she loves the soft and overall dreamy effect these give. She shares, “I like to give more focus to the background than the foreground. For me, art is a catalyst in the journey of understanding myself.”
Pointing out the same, a musician and artist, Sravya Sruthi Kothalanka feels, “I live realism and I paint surrealism. I mix and fuse myth, fantasy and my beliefs. I believe every being radiates its own kind of energy.” Her recent paintings of Jim Sarbh made an impact on many people in a positive way. She also shares that she uses gouache. “I’m self-taught and gouache really worked well for my kind of paintings,” she further added.
Artist Shreya Varakhedar feels that galaxies are abundant like art with no fairly visible boundaries. She shares, “For me, psychedelic art is a form that can be connected to from many perspectives and every time you look at it, it’s new.”
