HYDERABAD:  Guru Purnima dedicated to the age-old tradition of teachers and pupils and their deep bondage saw many from the city recalling the momentous contributions of teachers in shaping careers.

According to M. Lakshmi Narasimha Acharyulu, head priest at the Birla temple, “A teacher brings along knowledge of god and passes them to his students. He removes the darkness of ignorance.”

Faculty member Vani Bala said, “When you need someone wise to guide you through troubled times, your guru comes with that wisdom. You might have noticed that you give advice when you are not involved in any situation but the same is not true when you are in trouble. This is because wisdom dawns when you come through the mess. A guru is one who is out of the mess,” she said

B. Kaliyuga Chary, retired coach of Sports Authority of India, said, “Essentially a guru unconditionally pours out all his wisdom and skills on his disciples for their future well-being. On this day, as a mark of respect and reverence, students express their gratitude to their gurus and mentors.”
