Hyderabad all set for Ganesh idol immersion
HYDERABAD: Approximately 40, 000 Ganesh idols of various hues and dimensions are set to be taken out in a procession before being immersed at Hussainsagar lake here on Thursday. Officials have also arranged more than 50 water tanks in and around Hyderabad for a smooth immersion of Ganesh idols.
Meanwhile, police officials, who made all arrangements for the immersion, were tightlipped about implementation of the High Court directions with regard to immersion of Plaster of Paris (PoP) idols in Hussainsagar lake.
The Telangana High Court had directed the GHMC to see to it that Ganesh idols made of PoP are not immersed in Hussainsagar or any other water body within the city limits. It also called for alternative arrangements like setting up baby ponds to immerse PoP idols.
Violating the court orders would be taken seriously, warned a division bench of the High Court, comprising Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice N.V. Shravan Kumar.
Hyderabad police have blocked regular traffic movement on several flyovers. Minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav on Wednesday reviewed the situation with officials and called for measures to ensure a smooth procession and immersion.
Following a rise in communicable disease cases across the city, officials have set up medical camps at Hussainsagar lake, which will also have a heavy presence of women police personnel.
Meanwhile, Hyderabad Metro Rail authorities have decided to run services till 1 am on Friday for the comfort of the people heading home after the celebrations.
