Cyclone Michaung disrupts air travel in coastal AP
Visakhapatnam: As Cyclone Michaung approaches coastal Andhra Pradesh, the entire region faced significant disruptions in air travel on Monday.
Airlines took special steps, cancelling and diverting multiple flights across routes. Cancellation of around 20 flights that were scheduled to pass through crucial airports like Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam has been confirmed in the context of the cyclone- related weather changes.
Air operations were significantly affected, with Tirupati experiencing the suspension of all 15 flights scheduled for the day, while Visakhapatnam suspended four flights. Additionally, ten other flights were unable to operate, including five destined for Tirupati and Vijayawada.
IndiGo Airlines, in response to the impending cyclone, cancelled several flights, notably on routes connecting Vijayawada to Vizag, Vizag to Tirupati, Tirupati to Vizag, and Vizag to Vijayawada.
IndiGo flight 6E-845, scheduled from Visakhapatnam to Chennai was among the affected flights abruptly halted due to the cyclonic weather patterns.
Other flights, including the 6E-574 to Hyderabad, 6E-881 to Hyderabad, 6E-7063 to Vijayawada,and 6E-6089 to Chennai faced cancellations attributed to the inclement weather conditions in the region.
The cyclone's influence extended beyond Visakhapatnam, impacting various parts of AP and TN.
The widespread atmospheric disturbance forced the diversion of numerous flights, causing inconvenience to travellers and disrupting regular air travel schedules. Passengers were advised to stay updated on further developments and rescheduling options.
