Ban on single-use plastic in Vijayawada from Jan. 26
VIJAYAWADA: Vijayawada Municipal Corporation additional commissioner (projects) K.V. Satyavati, along with CMOH P. Ratnavali, conducted an awareness meeting with all the 286 ward secretaries and other VMC officials on the ban of plastic flexi banners and single-use plastics in accordance with the instructions and guidelines received by CDMA and the state government. The VMC is all set to implement the ban from January 26 and has appealed to citizens to cooperate with the officials by shunning single-use plastics.
Satyavati stressed on impactful public outreach programmes on the single-use plastic ban and urged the citizens of Vijayawada to use jute and cloth bags as a substitute for plastic bags. She also proclaimed that a prohibition on the use of plastic flexi banners, single-use plastic (SUP), and plastics below 120 microns would be effectively implemented from January 26, 2023, onward, and offenders would face severe penalties. Satyavati said that VMC had already formulated three enforcement teams, one for each circle, and 286 mini teams at the secretariat level for daily inspection and monitoring of establishments on the usage of single-use plastics and seizing the material.
