Yes, the trend of tiny sunglasses from the 90s is back! Every other celebrity, model and fashion influencer is seen sporting one these days. So, how did they get so tiny in the first place?

One thing we can say about fashion is that whenever a trend reaches its peak, it swings in the opposite direction. For example, when jeans got to the extreme of ‘skinniness’, the trendsetters started sporting the exact opposite – the flared jeans! Similarly, when the glasses grew bigger and bigger, and almost covered your entire face, (end of 2017 and early 2018), pictures with one odd celeb sporting tiny glasses starting popping up on our Insta feed.

Gigi Hadid, Rihanna, Kendall Jenner and Sonam Kapoor may make the small sunglasses look very easy to pull off. When Priyanka Chopra wore a ‘cat-eye’ pair for one of the ceremonies during her wedding — that too with a saree — most of us got the confidence to try those on. But one must understand their face structure and the most flattering frame accordingly, to nail this trend. Bhavya Chawla, Chief Stylist, Voonik, shares her suggestions on picking up the right frame for you.

Round face: Rectangular and geometrical pairs are the best for you as the angles blend well with the curve of your face. The right sunglasses can make you look very futuristic and ahead of times. People with round face should avoid oval sunglasses at all costs.

Square face: People with square face can carry off circular sunglasses better. Make sure they are not too large, but sleek with darker frames. Steer clear of geometric ones if you have a broader jaw line.

Oval face: Those with oval face can carry off most sunglasses with elan; so you can go all out with this trend. Cat-eye sunglasses are most flattering to the oval face.

Heart-shaped face: Having a heart-shaped face means you would have broader forehead, round cheeks and a narrow chin. For you, the thinner the frame, the better. A cat-eye frame would draw a lot of attention towards the eyes and also make the forehead look broad, hence it is best avoided. Sharp rectangle ones are best suited as they balance the cheeks making them look sleek.

The ‘tiny sunglasses’ trend may last only a couple of seasons; so, like all fashion trends, it is best to make hay while the ‘sun’ shines!
