Mix, Match Ensemble!
Summer is the perfect season to bring out those sheer ensembles from your wardrobe.
The rising temperatures call for an upgrade – wardrobe, we mean. And, if the current trends are anything to go by; there is a clear indication of how sheer ensembles are seeing a renaissance. But, what are some the rules to abide by? We explore...
Fashion influencer Aswathi Balakrishnan believes it’s a doable trend, provided one pays heed to basic style laws. “I wear a lot of sheer, and I personally feel that the part where people go wrong is when they pair sheer tops with the wrong accouterments and bottomwear. They wear the wrong lingerie. A bralette worn underneath a sheer top, with a pair of boyfriend jeans is the best way to make a statement without much spilling out. Pairing sheer with a high waist is best recommended so that only a bare minimum is revealed. And, you wont feel uncomfortable too.” For those on the heavier side, dresses could be a better option, she believes. “If you’re on the heavier side, you can wear a bodycon dress with a sheer ensemble on top. Wear a belt to clinch your waist so that it gives you a body structure. Black is a safe colour to play with. There are kind of golden shades in sheer. you need to stick to your skin colour, when you are pairing sheer with. so its not on your face.”
Designer Prerana Sharma on the other hand believes playing matching-matching is something that always works with sheer. “I think women need to learn to use this style tip, if they wish to sport sheer: match your lingerie with your underwear. It’s a daring look, and you need to be careful about everything you wear with it.”
Adding how a snazzier variant to sheer - mesh, works as a stellar option too, stylist Priyanka Khanna states, “Mesh is a great option if you’re headed for a nice evening party. I think adding a long vest to your attire is another great option, if you are a newbie to this style. Go easy on the accessorising, and a nice white crop top and fitted skirt is always a winning combo. However, if you are planning to add some spunk, stick to the same colour shirt and bra. A lot of icons are sporting sheer tops with great eye catchy embellishments. That is a cool way to put together a great look too!”
If you’re feeling frugal, it’s best to make use of that old top or get your favourite crop to Multi function. Designer Anita Jaiswal opines “Tying a front knot to a crop top is the best way to make a striking yet versatile attire. If you’re on the lookout for maximum coverage, layer a sheer shirt over a tank or bodycon dress! It always works! And last but not the least, please ensure you get a pedicure done and slay in some pointy heels!”
