When its festivities you are preparing for this season, the less is more essence is rocking the look book. A silken, shimmering Anarkali or ghagra with subtle embroidery or even a hint of Zari work on the borders, or a saree that twinkles in the sunlight, the idea is to accessorise so that you look the part, and shine on for the pujas and revelry ahead. And not look over the top, of course.

Bindis
Get your hands on some tiny or even large, two pronged bindis, that complement your outfit for the day. The idea is to get bling and colour on your forehead, but not too much. Commercial Street or any of the olden day gift shops in your neighbourhood have a slew of designer bindis to choose from, buy in gold, silver and the colours of your chosen outfits… try and choose unique motifs instead of the regular ones. A choose different types, the large ones, tiny stars, those that replicate temple jewellery and be set for the evening ahead.

Get a tikka
A nice small or large tikka for the forehead always comes in handy during the festivities, and also makes you stand out of the ordinary. There are many available in Commercial Street in the smaller jewellery shops. For a smaller forehead, try and choose a subtle small motif, and those with bigger foreheads, or bolder mindsets can go the whole hog with large ambis, or tear drops in silver, golden, faux kundan and coloured gems.

The wrist twinkle
Bangles, kadas and  bracelets that are traditional and have a nice temple touch or an antiquated look to them can be the perfect accessory for that flowing sequinned chiffon or silk saree. Try choose ones that can be mixed and matched, and also are not too colourful but have a deep gold wholesomeness about them.

Necklace it and Jhumka away
Most faux jewellery today comes with necklace and earrings, and you can choose delicate ones or large antique hinted ones for your festive look. A dull gold choker always comes in handy, and so does an umbrella jhumka that you can wear as a standalone with your Anarkali, or your sari.  Try and also get a nice strand of pearls that looks classic and goes beautifully with any white gold and silver toned outfits. Traditional jewellery is something that the festive season demands, and getting the right jewellery can embellish your look.

Ring it traditional
That stand alone glittering sparkly temple ring, or even a nice precious gem that is the same colour as your outfit. Try and complement the gold or silver on your outfit with the same tone of the ring, and sport it with panache.

A watch that goes shimmer
There are many jewellery watches available that stand out and create a sense of exclusivity to your overall look. Many comes with gem stones, diamonds and even have ornamental motifs that look beautiful on traditional outfits.

And please don’t forget a nice hand of fresh flowers for your hair if you are wearing Kanjeevarams and going completely traditional, that is an evergreen and timeless look for those who want to let their saree do the talking!
