They have become a huge part of our lives and the glamour they exude is nothing short of breathtaking

There’s nothing like curling up to watch back-to-back episodes of your favourite TV show in this weather, right? If you’ve spent enough time binge-watching shows like Sex and the City, Gossip Girl or the infamous Friends, you’re sure to lap up the world of these iconic TV show fashionistas, Carrie Bradshaw, Rachel Greene and Serena van der Woodsen. These characters have become household names for divas who absolutely love channelising their style. They have become a huge part of our lives and the glamour they exude is nothing short of breathtaking.

Sex and The City is a huge favourite with several young girls, who look up to Carrie Bradshaw’s runway-high street sense of style for inspiration. The character effortlessly carries off outfits you wouldn’t usually see anywhere but on the runway. Her bold sense of fashion has had an influence on many as Nischita Babu, a fashion blogger says, “Carrie dares to pull of those thigh high slits, deep plunging necklines, flowey long dresses with heels which are quite risque. These trends have become so iconic for couture wear and a lot of women love rocking these looks now!”

The connect you develop with the women on the screen is quite deep, as you start relating to various aspects of their character. Following their sense of fashion is a way of self-discovery too. Vasundhara Agarwal, a city-based blogger tells, “Serena from Gossip Girl pulls of these larger than life outfits with bright, bold accessories. She definitely gives you the confidence to pull it off. If you’re watching a lot of shows and you connect to these characters, you get to see a whole lot of outfits and it becomes easier to replicate them. Rachel Greene from Friends with her mini skirt and knee-length boots combo gives incentives on being chic.”

Corporate wear was well-defined by hit shows like Mad Men and Suits. Kavya Bagamane, a city-based designer says, “I used to watch Mad Men because the clothes were really nice. The 80s retro trend that’s shown has come back —the pencil skirts and the button-down shirt. Even Game of Thrones has great costumes that are fitted perfectly, with a lot of attention to detail and long silhouettes. They can be adapted to Indian wear as well.”
