Folks, let’s not delude ourselves: with the mercury levels rising, the scorching weather brings with it a host of wardrobe woes – but this is also the season when the accoutrements you’ve nestled deep inside your closet have every reason to come out. This time around, we’re talking about tube tops (which well, closely resemble vests). Why, you ask? Because contrary to popular beliefs, these snug fit essentials needn’t be restricted to be worn under your blazers. We get a bunch of peppy fashion bloggers in the city to lay out the laws.

“Tube tops resembling vests are in, and a great way to complement your silhouette if you have an athletic frame. As a rule of thumb, always and only team tube tops with flowy bottom wear such as flared skirts with asymmetrical hems or dhoti pants. The art of getting it right lies in the knack of balancing the  entire look,” says Jaitra Raju, a fashion blogger.

Letting in on some effective styling tricks and tips, Shalini Chopra, a blogger adds, “While there is no reason for bustier women to steer away from tank or tube tops for good, the former is a better option as compared to the latter. However, the key is to always make sure to only pick pieces with wider straps. Opt for tops of a tunic length for a better effect. And always opt for darker colours if you’re top heavy.”

Giving more insights on how to ace the look for your time at the desk, designer Nagashree Shreyas stresses on the importance of layering it right. “Wear a bright coloured tube top and pair it with a pair of beige or neutral hued trousers. Throw over a knit maxi shrug to make it more work appropriate. If you work in an informal setting, you could try teaming a black or a white tube with a cobalt blue skirt. Ethnic jackets are also ideal options for that edgy vibe. Drape a stole around your neck for more effect. Keep accessorising to the minimum, as the idea is to give out a neat yet care-free vibe!”

TUBE TIPS
1. Tube tops with ruffles and pleatings are ideal for women with narrow shoulders and a smaller bust.

2. Maxi shrugs and ethnic jackets are great add-ons to complete a look.

3. If you aren’t too confident about carrying it off, settle for tube tops in tunic length.

4. Tank tops are a better alternative for women on the heavier side. Settle for broader straps to give out a more balanced effect if you’re chest heavy.

5. It’s always a good option to opt for solid colours in plain designs, while sporting tube tops.
