Banker, designer, talk show host, writer, director, actor and entrepreneur — there are myriad hats that Vinay Bharadwaj dons. The Bengaluru boy who’s currently based out of Singapore rose to ‘digital’ stardom with his popular talk show Let’s Talk with Vinay. And, now, another feather has been added to his cap — On recently conceptualising the promo of a special programme for designer Manish Malhotra’s first-ever fashion show in Singapore on his YouTube channel on April 6. In a candid chat, he shares the inside track with us...
“A leading international entertainment channel from Singapore called me and told that Manish Malhotra is having his first-ever fashion show in Singapore and wanted me to conceptualise and direct a special programme. I was in Mumbai shooting at that time. So I went back to Singapore immediately as it sounded really exciting,” Vinay shares. The show starts by giving a brief about his illustrious journey and then goes into the story of the hosts of the show – a Bangladeshi power couple who is best friends with Manish, who organised this as a tribute to their friendship. Speaking about the best part of the process, Vinay reveals, “The icing on the cake was Kareena Kapoor Khan, who is Manish’s muse, walked as a showstopper. I had a nice interaction with her talking about the show and her friendship with Manish.”
After having spent close to a decade as a banker, making the switch to entrepreneurship and designing was a strange path but Vinay believes his banking background equipped him better for the path to showbiz. “Designing outfits is my first passion, which is the base for all other things to follow.
Becoming an entrepreneur was the foundation that let me explore the unexplored. For that, being a banker for 10 years shaped me into an individual that I am, who brings professionalism into this chaotic entertainment industry,” he adds. Still under the good feeling of his recent concept, Vinay has a few interesting projects he has started working on. “Working on an international talk show. I am also busy with the pre-production work of the first feature film that I have written and will be directing in Kannada.”
An intrepid travel and cooking enthusiast; Vinay indulges in these passions whenever he has the time. His word of advice to fledgling entrepreneurs is simple “Do not hesitate to pursue your passion, but do that by thinking both through
your head and heart. ‘Planning is the most important thing’ – financially, mentally and emotionally.”
