Mumbai: In the past few years, ‘organic’ has become a buzz word in the world of fashion as well as beauty. The increasing awareness of what goes into the making of skin care has led to the growing popularity of organic skincare products.

Read what the experts have to say and make a conscious decision towards a healthy well-being and a gorgeous skin.

Kama Ayurveda's in-house Dr. Natasha, highlights the need to switch to organic skin care products. She shared, “Chemicals tend to work faster and show results quicker, but have terrible effect on the skin and health in the long run. Products we put on our skin should be as pure and clean as we ingest.  A lot of chemicals have a long-term health and hormonal impact.”

“With constant growing awareness, people have chosen to follow the organic path and rejuvenate youthful skin to keep the inner glow intact. Organic skin care provides the purest form of ingredients.” shares Dr. Barkha Rajeev Herani of Birla Ayurveda.

Before purchasing any products it is imperative to know the difference between organic, made with organic and natural. According to cosmetic certifiers, for a product to be organic, 95% of the ingredients must be organic.

When a product claims to be organic, the product will constitute either 20% or 10% organic ingredients. The use of the term natural can be quite dubious, as it does not necessarily mean that it is 100% natural and definitely not organic.

Dr. Natasha from Kama Ayurveda highlights that there are few things to be kept in mind before purchasing organic products:

It takes time to show results. Therefore, one needs to keep patience.

Check for the labels, the different type of ingredients, pesticides and fragrances used.

Do not settle for inexpensive organic products as the purity of the ingredients determine the prices.

According to Dr. Barkha, it is imperative to study the ingredients list before purchase. While looking at the product list remember that the products are listed from highest in content to the lowest, so if there are any synthetic ingredients like Propylene Glycol or dimethicone, they are listed last.

Dr. Barkha also added that it is important to conduct a patch test before using the product. This helps us assess the tolerability of the cosmetic products, thereby revealing any potential irritants and allergic effects.
