Cape' of good style!
It serves a dual fashion purpose: it hides an unshapely body and also works as an accessory.
This popular western trend is slowly creeping into Indian fashion as well. It is a very flexible piece of clothing which is very accommodating to every body type. Indian fashion has accepted this form in various styles such as long capes, dupatta capes, poncho capes etc. It has been sported by Bollywood names like Nimrat Kaur, Sonam Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor. We talk to Bengaluru-based fashionistas and find out more about this concept.
We find a lot of trends that is in vogue at the moment but not everyone can pull it off with confidence. But, a cape is one such trend that can be worn by any boy type. Fashion blogger Tanya Bhat says, “The cape trend is very easy to carry and it also happens to be a very forgiving trend and so one doesn't have to be in perfect shape to sport this trend. Being a very versatile piece of clothing it will look good regard less of body type. As it is in trend now we are seeing many versions of it from saree blouses to even regular western tops.”
Keeping the outfit balanced is trick that makes the person out from the lot. Fashion influencer Zohara Jamal says, “The rage now is embellished capes. Wearing this with a ghagra; sari or even a long tailored dress will give the outfit an edgy look.” In order to give the cape a more western look city based stylist Shachina Heggar says, “As winter is fast approaching one can cape in the form of sweaters and revive the Poncho look of the 80s.”
While wearing a cape outfit it is important to keep it in balance with other aspects of the outfit. Zohara says, “Wearing a printed or overly embellished cape with a heavy outfit is not something I would recommend. I would suggest that if the outfit is heavy wear a light cape and also vice versa.” Silhouette of the cape being worn is very important while sporting this trend. Tanya says, “If the person is wearing a thigh length cape, it is best to wear it with skinny jeans and leggings and not with a skirt as the overall outfit will look shapeless.”
Although cape themselves serve as accessories, if a person wants to sport other accessories it should be kept minimal. Shachina says, “When accessorising for this trend one can sport statement earrings or also finger rings. Do not wear anything on the neck as it will add to the drama on the torso area.” Being a very versatile fabric the cape can be worn for any occasion. Tanya says, “The fabric of the cape is very important. A light cotton cape is perfect to wear during the summer whereas a georgette embellished cape can be worn for formal night occasion. I think it all comes down to the fabric and the embellishment.”
