The Chennai based fashion designer Vicky Kapoor has just come out with his latest ‘Spring Summer Collection 2018’ in which the accent is on drapes. An extensive collection of sarees for women that draws inspiration from traditional as well as contemporary designs. Serving the south Indian fashion industry brings in a different perspective, catering to the fashion sensibilities of the people here and the colours they tend to like. His latest designs pay an ode to the summer season. The young designer and choreographer, who have been in the field for a decade working in Chennai’s market, came up with the idea of introducing his collection with an eye on corporate dressing. On occasions like World Ethnic Day (falling on June 19) Vicky’s drapes could be a big hit.  “We have used green, red — the flower colours, also water colours and blue based colours, getting the theme from nature itself”, said Vicky while speaking on his collection for the season. The drapes are based on crepe fabric, starting from Rs 3,500 and going up to Rs 17,500. The collection carries a limited edition of drapes in nature-induced colours. Simple leather belts paired with sarees are designed to give a different look to the sarees. The north Indian taste of wearing sarees has been recognised with sleeveless blouses made with sequins.

The look adds a vibe of summer cool to his dresses with office going ladies being the focus of the designer’s work. The light fabrics take into account the hot and sweaty season when the make-up tends to be runny as well. The young designer has tried to bring something new and trendy keeping in mind the taste of the younger generations. If it’s an evening drink, or an office party or even a kitty party, one can pick up one of these sarees to suit the mood and occassion. “The drapes can be wrapped for formal parties too, depending on how a woman carries it,” shared Vicky.  Apart from working on his special collection launch, the designer has also done some seminal work on corporate dressing, grooming and etiquette. He is also looking at ‘Friday wear’ in corporate dressing that can be easily morphed into an after-work party wear in no time.
