This winter, give your wardrobe a light dusting of updating – with a streak of effortless sass. Dungarees, the ‘90s classic, are making a comeback with gusto. Whether you wish to exude an air of laidback casual chic or just spruce up your work wear wardrobe, city-based stylists decode the sartorial laws to nail the look...

“Dungarees have always been an all time favourite among women owing to its key feature – versatility. These can be teamed with t-shirts, shirts and overlays. And they look stellar when worn with trainers or loafers or even boots. Dungarees have evolved over the years and now we do not see them only in denim, the dungaree has progressed into materials like cotton, polyester, wool etc. No more a casual attire, they have versions for work wear and evening wear as well. Layering is also another way of portraying your own style statement and looking apart from the rest. According to the occasion, dungarees can be paired with oxfords, brogues, pumps, mary janes and the like for a work look. Choose mules, clogs, stilettos and wedges for an evening look,” says  Sushamaa Kongara, a city-based stylist.

Nagashree Shreyas, a designer says, “Distressed dungarees are in. But, it all depends on how well you style it, and wear it as per your body type.  Fitted dungarees are perfect for hour glass body types; dungarees which are fitted on the top and a little loose towards the bottom is perfect for the Indian body type. You can also get experimental by teaming checks with denim dungarees to spruce it up a bit.”

Speaking about the colour combinations that work, blogger Shalini Chopra opines how classics reign supreme. “You can go all out and play it up with colours. But, I’d suggest sticking to basic tones. But if you aren’t in the mood to experiment, stick to basic colours like black, blue, white and denim. You can take the trend up a  notch with striking combos like a striped tee with quirky prints. “
