When motherhood kicks in hormonal changes
Pigmentation is one of the most common changes that a mother can experience.
Experiencing motherhood is an eternal bliss that one can experience in their lifetime. However, very few will highlight the downsides of pregnancy. During this phase, mothers usually undergo enormous internal changes usually not visible to the naked eye. The hormone ratio changes and there is a genetic tendency among Indian women to develop pigmentation like dark patches and uneven skin tones often called melasma, which is excess pigmentation.
However, this cannot be considered to be a medical problem but a cosmetic issue, which can be solved. Sometimes, pigmentation can happen due to hormonal changes and sometimes because of excessive exposure to pollutions and environmental factors.
Pigmentation during pregnancy is a natural and most common occurrence. The best way to get over such a situation would be to eat healthy loaded with lots of fresh fruits, ample amount of water and a good pigmentation cream to fasten the process.
Karan Ratti, CEO and CSO of Ratti Corporation shares, “Using mild cosmetic products is extremely important. Incorporating sun protection and avoiding any harsh skin treatments like lasers, peeling and parlour facials can also help prevent pigmentation. Using a skin care system for pigmentation like a day and night cream along with face wash that is Ph balanced and serves the skin’s natural biology can help to ensure that skin remains healthy from the outside so that internal changes don’t make pigmentation worse and that existing pigmentation can reduce.”
Whereas, Rahul Agarwal, CEO, Organic Harvest shares, “One of the recommendations for skin care is to look for right ingredients. He further elaborates, Skin related issues like stretch marks, sensitive and itchy skin can be reduced with adequate hydration. A rich organic moisturiser can come in handy.”
Rahul further elaborates that exfoliating the skin twice a week should be a part of the skincare regime. While many women may not experience a healthy glow, exfoliating can bring out the inner glow. Exfoliation helps to lighten dark spots and makes skin appear smoother and less blotchy. Since the skin is continuously changing during this phase, a gentle and organic approach may be the best way.
Here is how you can find if your skin is prone to pigmentation:
If you get tanned easily, have dark spots or elders in your family have had uneven skin darkening or marks, then chances are high that you might be prone to pigmentation. Just like people have sensitive or dry skin or acne prone skin, people with pigmentation prone skin are prone to uneven skin tone and excess darkening.
Mothers with pigmentation prone skin should take special care to avoid eternal stresses that can cause pigmentation while at the same time use a good skin care system to help keep pigmentation free.
