Sashaying to Apeksha's designs
Eleven year-old fashion designer Apeksha Binoj speaks about her party wear collection showcased at the Kerala Fashion League.
The word of fashion is not so easy to crack, especially for a designer who dreams to walk the ramp with a celebrity showstopper, showing her collection. Eleven year-old Apeksha Binoj didn’t have to wait to grow up to make a mark in the fashion world. She had been recently called for presenting her collection at the Runway Dubai Fashion week, a dream of many designers. The young designer also got a chance to show her collection at the Kerala Fashion League Season 4.
Doing her schooling in UAE, the young designer spends her weekend designing clothes, even while managing her school work efficiently. What is her inspiration? “It all began when I was seven and asked my mother if I could design my dress for my birthday party. Since then, I have been designing all my clothes and my parents have been extremely supportive,” says a happy Apeksha. Even though her short responses are laced with innocence, her poise does reflect the experience working with those elder to her. Being the only Indian and Malayali designer who got selected for the Dubai Runway fashion week, Apeksha talks more about her designs.
“For my Dubai show, my theme was Back to Christmas. It was a collection of winter wear as I love the month of December which is full of celebration and parties. I also had a party wear made from the colours of the UAE National flag, which was much appreciated by the judges,” says Apeksha. For the Kerala Fashion League, she had Aparna Balamurali as her showstopper. “This one was also a collection of party wear with stones and pearl works,” says Apeksha. Asked if party wear was her speciality, Apeksha answers, “I like the style of party wear. But next year, I will be focusing on casual wear.”
