Ladies, it’s time for a seasonal upgrade! With the summer smiling bright at us, it’s only legit to scorch right back – with sharp and striking sartorial choices. Take notes, as designers from the city let us in on style tips to consider.

FABRICS THAT SCREAM FABULOUS
“While summer is synonymous with light weight and breathable fabrics, the message for S’17 is loud and clear: Digress from the usual, while ensuring comfort is key. When you choose cotton, pick from trendier variations like satin cotton and silk mul mul, a fabric that is big this season. Considering how the intelligent mix of cotton and silk weave well to give out a chic yet comfortable appeal, this works well for informal work environments too. Palazzos, patialas and flared trousers are undoubtedly in,” opines Mayank Modi, who further adds, “It’s a great time to play around with a lot of mixing and matching of fabrics. But as a rule, ensure the bottom wear is made of a heavier fabric. While you can always sport linen bottoms with cotton top wear, ensure you only choose to go cotton-on-cotton.”

COLOURS TO CATCH
The colour forecast for the season is all about choosing all hues light, understated and dreamy.

“Digress from stand-out shades and give sparkly bright colours a break. Sea green, shades of coral and pastel colours like blush pink and pea blue are in. Consider playing around with layers and stripes too, provided the material is light,” pipes Pria Sethi, a casual women’s wear designer.

TO DENIM OR NOT
With denims having had a major fashion moment up until a while ago, the debate of whether or not to wear it; remains.

“Denims are great wardrobe staples. But don’t let the trusty fabrics invade your wardrobe this season. At the most you can sport it as a jacket over a light weight cotton tee. But all in all, make way for cotton, organza, linen and other flowy silhouettes. Lightweight jackets are back in trend. Team them up with crop tops and a-line skirts to make a chic statement,” adds Pria.

ACCOUTERMENT COMMANDMENTS
Summer can be all things bright and nice, but for accessory-hoaders, the season may spell gloom-doom. “Long chains with striking, statement lockets will reign supreme. Chokers of any kind takes a backseat. Minimalism is the mantra, so keep it simple and keep it breathable!” concludes Prerana Sarkar, a city-based stylist.
