Rocking their repeats

Celebrities seem to have embraced the #StyleRepeat movement and many of them are now recycling their outfits with ease.

Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton and actress Sonam Kapoor have, in the past, repeated their outfits.

Celebrities often have to live up to many lofty wardrobe goals. Though most of them still won’t be caught dead in the same ensemble twice, things are surely changing. Take for instance entrepreneur Arianna Huffington. She recently supported the ongoing #StyleRepeat movement and wrote on Facebook that instead of dealing with the stress of always feeling like you have to wear something new for every occasion, one can just wear something they love, again and again.

She even pointed out that men are rarely vilified for repeating outfits or wearing casuals, but when prominent women are spotted repeating their outfits, the critical clamour is deafening.

Ayesha A.K., celebrity stylist, says she stopped bothering about social media comments. “If a celebrity likes a certain outfit, she has every right to wear it as many time as she wants to. It is not possible to have 365 outfits,” she says.

But as they are always in the public eye, how do celebrities manage their love for a specific outfit and yet stay fashionably relevant? “Style is something that is very specific to an individual. For the trend #Style-Repeat the catch is in pairing and carrying it differently each time,” explains celebrity stylist Aastha Sharma.

This philosophy probably eases the life of a stylist too. Ayesha concurs, “Our life obviously becomes much easier. We do not have to run to a designer every now and then, pick out a new outfit, deal with fitting costs and the time that is spent for alteration.”

But stylist Nandita Mahatani refuses to believe that a stylist’s work pressure will get affected by the #StyleRepeat movement. “Our lives do not necessarily get easier. Even though celebrities repeat outfits or accessories they love, it’s human nature to re-style.” But should women celebrities join the #StyleRepeat bandwagon?  “Definitely. I think it’s perfectly normal to repeat your outfits and the entire look,” shares Nandita.
