Pretty little layers
Layering always makes one stand apart from the crowd, and it's no different this season.
Though summer is here, the winter mainstay that refuses to die down is that of the layer trend. Taking the form of breezy fabrics and cool colours, this trend is here to help us get out of the rut of dresses and shorts, that we seem to be stuck in. A number of our tinsel town beauties have been seen rocking the style and getting creative with their outfits. Their trick? learning to play with lighter layers!
The scorching heat is no excuse to dress sloppily we believe! The look is simple, yet adds a the perfect dose of style to amp up an outfit. “These days there are quite a lot of cross-over of trends and given that there is no clear distinction in summers and winters in India, one doesn’t necessarily have to follow winter and summer lines. The idea of layering is absolutely acceptable given the availability of varied fabrics suitable across seasons, making it both trendy and comfortable. The use of Chanderi cottons and khadi for summers, and pairing it with a light jacket for winter makes it usable across seasons,” says designer Ankit Sharma about the easy-breezy look.
The cool layering essential is common in most celebrities wardrobes today as it gives off a very casual vibe. “Since summer is all about the colours, keeping the layers thin and minimal is mandatory. While one layer could be plain, the other can be printed which will give off a very chic style statement. Cool colours like blue, yellow and nude with white are minimal pairings. Contrasting hues can also be used as one of the key layering trends. I think pink and black will make for the perfect evening occasion,” chimes designer Neha Kukreja.
As for accessorising, “Since there is a lot going on with the outfit, accessorising would be minimal with a basic bracelet and some ear rings. With layering, even no accessories would enhance the look,” says the designer who describes her style of layering as sporting an oversized denim jacket with a printed shirt-dress. The trend is a hot favourite of designer Tanmayi Reddy. “Its one trend I constantly sport because of its versatility. The gilet or coat can be in different materials like cotton or polyester which are very lightweight and since most of them are sleeveless, it makes for the perfect summer outfit,” she says. As for how she would style it, Tanmayi adds, “I think a crop top under the layers would look amazing if paired with either palazzos or skinny jeans. It gives off a very breezy vibe. And for a more formal look, some of the coats have collars so those work well,” she opines the designer who believes the trick to carrying off any look is comfort. “There are ways to go wrong with the look in terms of colours, but I think confidence is key and can turn the look around.”
