WARANGAL: In a bid to draw youth towards keeping fit, a 47-year-old police constable, posted at Jangaon DCP's office, is riding to work on his bicycle for 55 kilometres.

T. Anjaneyulu, who hails from Thatikonda in Station Ghanpur mandal of Jangaon district and has settled at Kazipet in Hanumakonda district, says: "Youth today are drawn towards riding sports bikes, which are a common sight. Their awareness towards fitness has taken a backseat. Coronavirus pandemic has alerted us about the importance of maintaining one's health. I want to remind people of the same by example," he stated.

Anjaneyulu says youngsters not being fit came out starkly among those who had been unable to complete their 800-metre sprint during police recruitments. This made him bicycle to work from September 1.

“Even though not daily, I cycle to work as frequently as possible. I have completed riding 1,000 kilometres last month," the constable disclosed.

He is a member of the local Tricity Riders Warangal. "What Mr. Anjaneyulu is doing is inspiring," said club president M. Chandrashekar Reddy. There is need for more people to take up cycling for maintaining good health, he stated.

“We, as a group, organise several rides to promote cycling as a means of transport among citizens," Chandrashekar added.
