Digital strain takes toll on eyes: Study
The excessive usage of gadgets is leading to eye-related ailments in all age groups observed the study.
HYDERABAD: One out of every four complaints of digital eye strain are found to be young women and one out of every five patients seeking care for their eyes are due to the problems of redness, eye twitching and headaches caused due to constantly looking at various screens, according to a random study carried out in Hyderabad.
The excessive usage of gadgets is leading to eye-related ailments in all age groups observed the study. The digital eye strain was not only observed in the young, but also in children. The increasing work load and entertainment hours on computers, laptops and also mobile phones have shown visual disturbances, which are also leading to loss in productivity. The common eye complaints recorded were redness of the eyes, eye strain, eye twitching, headaches and also fatigue.
The assessment in the study revealed that many of them complained about increase in errors, poor performance and also an impact on their overall health as the eyes were under tremendous strain. Superintendent of Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital, Dr Ravindra Goud said, “After working for every 20 minutes, look at an object 20 metres away. This relaxes the eye muscles and restores eye health.”
