Ernakulam: Fever spreads despite prevention measures

Two suspected H1N1 cases reported were also reported.

KOCHI: Despite intensive control and prevention measures, communicable diseases are on the increase in Ernakulam. Even the common viral fever cases have become complex with other rare symptoms like red rashes on the body and extreme tiredness, observe doctors. “There is an alarming increase in fever cases, and the number is going up. As people are now more aware and concerned, they consult doctors even on the common flu. The number of patients in OP section has increased from the normal 100 – 150 per day to 200 – 250 including fever cases. The number of patients coming to casualty after OP time also has increased,” said Dr P.K. Sunil, a paediatrician at North Paravur taluk hospital.

On Monday 30 suspected dengue cases have been reported from Kalady, Paravur, Vengola, Thirumarady, Thrikkakara, Kadamakudy, Vadavucode, Kothamangalam, Nellikuzhy, Kalamassery, Malayattur, Cheranelloor Kumbalam and Koovappady. Two suspected H1N1 cases reported were also reported.  The number of new fever cases reported in OP section of government hospitals on Monday is 1,825 and 52 of them have been admitted for further treatment. Meanwhile, the health department is carrying out disease prevention and control measures like vector control, source reduction and chlorination of drinking water sources with the support of other agencies and local bodies.
