Kick'start to a new, fitter life
Many professionals are qutting their jobs and opting to become fitness trainers in Bengaluru.
Fitness training seems to be quite the popular career option among people in the city today. Just a few years ago, if one wanted to be a fitness trainer, gym instructor would be the only word that came to mind.
But today, the field has expanded and ranges from aerobics and zumba to yoga and karate! And today, more people in the city are opting for careers in fitness rather than the mainstream options. Trainers from various fitness fields talk to us about the trend…
Loving what he does now, Prasad MG who previously worked as the manager at an import agency in the city says, “I was more interested in Karate and wanted to pursue it over my job. My family wasn’t very accepting of it in the beginning because I was leaving a high paying job to pursue what I was truly passionate about.”
But if you are passionate enough you will figure out a way to make things work yourself, believes the Karate trainer.
“When I was starting out couple of years ago, I realised that the city lacks goal oriented trainers which is what I focused on becoming. But now I love what I do because I get to help people in so many ways and actually witness the changes in them,” adds Prasad.
While some do it to help others, others got into the field to better themselves! “At one point, my nine to five job became too stressful to handle – with all the peer pressure and work politics. It was more stressful than satisfying. I only started to calm down once I started practicing Yoga. And it was the best thing I’ve done. So once I quit my job, I decided to become a yoga instructor and it has not only helped me improve my physical health but I have also become a more positive and calmer person,” speaks up Usha SP, a Yoga instructor who previously worked as the team leader at Dell.
While some got into the field of fitness training later, Zumba Master Trainer Shwetambari Shetty was already exposed to the field at a young age. “I have been doing yoga with my father from the time I was seven,” reveals Shwetambari.
“I was a banker and had a regular nine to five job but eventually quit because I got a better opportunity with Zumba and decided to give it a try!” Seems like things have worked out well for the instructor since then! “Now I work for 12 to 14 hours a day and don’t have any complains about it because I’m doing what I love and am passionate about,” says Shwetambari who is also a Nike trainer!
Think it’s time to get away from those cubicles and warm chairs yet? We definitely think so!
