Chennai: Diabetic foot can be prevented with early detection, say experts

The conference aims to increase the awareness of diabetic foot care that will influence the medicos and experts.

Chennai: Diabetic Foot Society of India (DFSI) in collaboration with National and International Associations organized the 15th Annual Conference of Diabetic Foot Society of India and 5th Chennai Advanced Wound Care Conference on Friday. The three-day conference under the theme “Clarity among Variety” is to discuss on newer technologies, latest knowledge, expertise, science and advances, medical innovations in the foot care.

The conference aims to increase the awareness of diabetic foot care that will influence the medicos and experts to assimilate and gather knowledge to be used for the benefit of the patients. Health secretary Dr. J Radhakrishnan inaugurated the conference, while Dr. V B Narayanamurthy, Vice President, Diabetic Society of India discussed different aspects of diabetic foot care.

Medicos said that diabetes has become a major healthcare problem, but with earlier detection, even a minor change that happens in our human system can be traced and health conditions can be improved. Diabetic foot is a condition of later stage and can be prevented if risk factors are avoided and diabetes is detected early. “People with diabetes need to give special attention to their feet as diabetes intend to develop diabetes neuropathy, diabetes vasculopathy,” said Dr V B Narayanamurthy.
