Girl from MP set to undergo treatment for condition that makes her shed skin
She has been unable to walk without a stick and can't strengthen her limbs as she needs a bath every hour to prevent skin from hardening.
Rare skin conditions affecting people at a young age can make life a harrowing experience for children and make them vulnerable to discrimination. But thanks to rising awareness and more access to diagnosis, many children across the globe are able to live a normal, healthy life.
Life has been a constant struggle for 16-year-old Shalini Yadav from Madhya Pradesh who suffers from a disorder causing her to shed skin like a snake. She has to apply moisturiser multiple times and take a bath every hour to avoid her skin from hardening.
The girl has been suffering for a long time as she can’t walk without a tick or straighten her hands, since her family is unable to afford treatment. But fortunately fundraisers in the area heard her story and called on hospital to help following which one from Spain has agreed to treat Shalini.
Shalini who is set to get the life changing treatment in Spain is excited about visiting the country she has only seen on TV. The condition causes Shalini’s skin to become hard and flake off as the girl has been shedding skin every 45 days since birth.
Her parents are heartbroken over the condition they say is not killing her but is taking her life bit by bit. They have been helpless by far as they don’t know who to consult, but her father is thankful to the hospital as Shalini now has a chance to live a normal life.
