Hyderabad: Tirtham in temples is often made with raw milk, and nutritionists state that this milk is full of pathogens and is not safe. Dr A Ushasree explained, “Raw milk is sure to have  micro-organisms and it is not fit for human consumption. But as people are taking only a few sips or consuming it in small quantities it does not show. But those who have milk intolerance are found to complain of diarrohea and foamy stools.” In some cases, the tirtham is ordered directly from factory outlets, where the pasteurised quality is available, which is safe. But these are rare instances which happen only when the number of devotees is very high.
