Colour Doppler echo lab at Kozhikode Government Medical College hospital
The Minister was speaking after inaugurating the Colour Doppler echocardiogram lab at MCH.
KOZHIKODE: After the present Government took charge, nearly Rs 150 crore was utilized for infrastructure development of the Kozhikode Government Medical College hospital here, said Health Minister KK Shylaja. The Minister was speaking after inaugurating the Colour Doppler echocardiogram lab at MCH. The Minister added that various latest state of the art equipment have been introduced at the hospital in this one year at various departments of the hospital.
The purpose of the new equipment was to determine the size of the heart, to evaluate how well it was functioning or pumping and to assess the structure and function of the valves within the heart. Speaking further about the uses of the lab, hospital officials said that a Doppler echocardiogram measured the speed and direction of blood flow within the heart. It screened the four valves for leaks and other abnormalities.
By assigning colour to the direction of blood flow, (Color Flow Mapping), large areas of blood flow may be studied. The lab was dedicated by Kerala Health Research and Welfare Society by spending Rs 1 crore to the super specialty block of the hospital. MLA A Pradeep Kumar, Corporation deputy Mayor Meera Dharshak, Principal in- charge Dr Prathap Somnath and Super specialty block superintendent Dr KM Kuriakose were also present.
